Privacy Policy

Overview

Vanilla is operated by No Type Studio B.V. The app does not send your browsing history or search queries to its operator and contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Vanilla stores browsing data on your device to provide its features. Browsing, searching, and search suggestions also send requests to websites and external services, as explained below. If you contact support, Vanilla’s operator receives the information you choose to send.

Data Stored on Your Device

Vanilla stores the following on your device:

  1. Open tabs, including URLs, titles, scroll positions, and preview images.
  2. Browsing history, visit times and counts, and frequently visited sites.
  3. Site icons (favicons) and autocomplete caches.
  4. App settings and site-specific protection preferences.
  5. WebKit website data, including cookies, login sessions, local storage, IndexedDB, and caches.

History is enabled by default, and automatic clearing is off. Browsing data can remain after you close and reopen the app until it is cleared. Turning history off stops new history recording and history-based suggestions; it does not erase existing history.

Vanilla does not upload this stored browsing data to servers controlled by its operator. This does not mean it is excluded from operating-system or device backups.

Search and Autocomplete

Nonempty text typed into the address bar may be sent to DuckDuckGo for suggestions before you press Go. This can include text that looks like a URL, not just search queries.

Suggestions use DuckDuckGo regardless of your selected search engine. Turning history off does not disable online suggestions, and the app currently has no separate switch to turn them off. These requests are handled under DuckDuckGo's privacy policy.

When you submit a search, it goes to your selected search provider.

Websites and External Services

Websites, search providers, and services supplying site icons receive the requests needed to provide those features. Requests can include your IP address, browser information, requested URLs or search text, and relevant cookies.

These services handle data under their own policies. Vanilla blocks ads and trackers, but websites may still contain advertising or tracking and receive information when you use them.

Clearing Your Data

Use Settings → Data Clearing → Clear All Data, or “Delete Tabs & Data” in the tab overview, to clear local browsing data: tabs and previews, history, the app's favicon and autocomplete caches, and WebKit website data such as cookies and login sessions. App settings and site-specific protection preferences remain.

Settings → History → Clear All History clears history and the app's favicon and autocomplete caches. It does not close tabs or clear website cookies and login sessions.

Automatic clearing is optional and off by default. It closes tabs and clears the categories you select: Cookies & Logins, Cache, and History are separate choices. Delayed clearing runs when the app becomes active again after the selected time away, rather than at an exact time in the background.

Clearing local data does not delete records already held by websites, search providers, or other external services.

Support and Feedback

If you email feedback@vanillabrowser.com, Vanilla’s operator receives your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to include. The app's Send Feedback action opens your email app without automatically attaching diagnostics.

Support correspondence is used to respond to your requests and review your feedback. You can use the same address to request deletion of correspondence you have sent to support.

This Website

Vanillabrowser.com is hosted by Cloudflare. Visiting the site sends Cloudflare request information, such as your IP address, browser information, and requested pages, to deliver and protect the website. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

The website uses Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to count visits. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across sites and doesn't build a profile of you. The website has no advertising trackers or contact forms, and its code does not set cookies. These website requests are separate from the app's local browsing storage.
